Where to stay as a couple,
one hour from Rome
The Lovers' Cottage is a wooden house set apart from the villa. Inside there is room for two only: the bed, the bathroom with shower, air conditioning for the summer and radiators for the winter. Outside there is a private garden, with the lawn, the path, the lights and the porch: that is yours and nobody else's. There is no kitchen: you will find a fridge, a microwave and the coffee corner with capsules. For a dinner you cook yourselves there is the outdoor kitchen with barbecue, shared with the other two accommodations. Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out by 11 am.

A romantic weekend calls for privacy, and it is worth knowing beforehand how the place is laid out. The cottage and its garden are yours alone. The pool and the large 3,000 m² garden are not: they are shared with the two apartments in the villa, which sleep up to four people each. In summer, at the pool, you may therefore not be alone. Stefano's parents also live on the property, and keep everything in order. Anyone looking for a place with nobody else around will not find it here. Anyone looking for a corner of their own inside a real home will.

Every season
has its own weekend
The cottage is open all year round. From mid-May to mid-October there is the pool, 8 am to 10 pm: an early-morning swim, while the garden is still quiet, is the best moment of all. In autumn Tuscia changes colour: the beech forest of Monte Cimino is 30 minutes away, Lake Vico 40. In winter the cottage, all wood, is heated and snug, and the villages are visited at an easier pace: Vitorchiano 15 minutes away, Civita di Bagnoregio and Calcata 45. In spring, the gardens: Villa Lante, in Bagnaia, is 20 minutes away.

It is an independent wooden hideaway designed just for two: the porch is yours, the bathroom with shower is inside the cottage and morning coffee is taken in the open air. In the evening the lanterns come on among the trees, and the cottage's garden is yours alone; the pool and the large garden are shared with the other two apartments.
How far is Tuscia from Rome for a weekend?
Barely an hour on the A1: the Orte motorway exit is 15 minutes from the villa. Leave Rome on Saturday morning and from 3 pm the cottage is yours (in summer, with a swim in the pool) — no flights, no complicated packing.
Is it true you can bathe at the thermal baths at night?
Yes: at the Terme dei Papi in Viterbo, every Saturday, the monumental pool stays open from 9 pm to 1 am, with thermal water that springs at 58 degrees at the source, steaming into the night air. For a couple it is a ritual worth doing at least once — even more so in winter.
Which villages should we see in two days?
Our tried-and-tested loop: Civita di Bagnoregio at sunset on Saturday, then on Sunday the Sacro Bosco of Bomarzo at opening time, Celleno the ghost village and Vitorchiano, the village suspended over the precipice. Three completely different atmospheres in half a day.

Where can a couple spend two days near Rome?
In Viterbo's Tuscia, an hour by car: leave the A1 at Orte and in 15 minutes you are in Bassano in Teverina. Two days hold a village at sunset, a morning at the Monster Park of Bomarzo, 10 minutes away, and many hours with no plan at all.
Will we have the pool to ourselves?
No. The pool and the large garden are shared with the two apartments in the villa. Yours alone are the cottage, the bathroom and the private garden around it. The pool is open from mid-May to mid-October, 8 am to 10 pm.
What time do we arrive at and leave the cottage?
Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out by 11 am: an hour more than the apartments, for the last coffee under the porch. If you need a different time, ask us in advance: it can be arranged, for an extra charge.
Is the cottage good in winter too?
Yes. It is open all year round and has radiators as well as air conditioning. The pool is closed in those months: the weekend becomes the cottage, the villages and the silence of the countryside.
